Who would have thought that it’s already been a year since the call was made to help protect the wizarding world? Harry Potter: Wizards Unite marked an important milestone as it celebrated its first birthday. It’s been a series of ups and downs, but looks like the game is starting its second year strong.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite had its start on June 21 last year. There was some hype when the game was first teased and the level went up when the launch of the beta version was limited initially to New Zealand. There were some issues with the initial release, which was finally fixed when it was officially launched. During the 2020 Webby Awards the game won the People’s Choice Award for Technical Achievement.

So how was the past year? Well, let’s start with some figures, and so far they look good. These include:

  • 5 billion traces returned
  • 400 million kilometers walked
  • 2 billion visits to points of interest
  • 275 million wizarding challenges won
  • 850 million potions consumed
  • 150 million gifts sent to friends

There’s no question that the numbers are truly impressive. Even better than that are the magical connections made by everyone around the world.

One feature that made wizards even more interested in the game was Gifting. By visiting Fortresses, Greenhouses, and Inns, players can pick up different gifts which contain Wizarding XP and other useful items. All of these can be shared with friends.

Then there’s Adventure Sync. This feature helps make sure that all kilometers walked are counted towards unlocking Portkey Portmanteaus. By using this particular feature, players can continue to make progress even when the app isn’t open.

Finally, there was the arrival of the Knight Bus. With this new feature, wizards can hop aboard this transport and go to the Fortress at Hogwarts Castle in order to take on Wizarding Challenges.

Wizarding Weekend

If you’re looking for something to do, there’s still one event left. Wizarding Weekend begins on June 26 at 2:00 PM EST and runs until June 29 at 2:00 PM EST. For this particular event, Foundables that can be encountered include Minerva McGonagall, the Sorting Hat, and even a Portrait of Albus Dumbledore.
