Something big is arriving in Pokémon GO and it's one sure to excite a lot of trainers. That's because Primal Reversion has just been discovered. For those not familiar with it, Primal Reversion is a phenomenon powered by natural energy that transforms certain Pokémon by giving them a new appearance and improving their performance in battle, to name a few.

This phenomenon has only been discovered in two Pokémon so far. These are the Legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Groudon, both discovered originally in the Hoenn region.

Primal Energy

In the game, players need to collect Primal Energy to allow Kyogre and Groudon to undergo Primal Reversion. Primal Energy can be earned by beating Primal Kyogre or Primal Groudon in a Raid Battle and by finishing specific research tasks.

Once these Pokémon undergo Primal Reversion, Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon are going to stay in their primal form for eight hours, after they return to their standard form. The thing to remember is that the more times the Pokémon undergoes Primal Reversion, the less Primal Energy is needed.

New Bonuses

Once Kyogre or Groudon reverts to their primal form, trainers receive these bonuses:

  • When Primal Kyogre is in your party, Water-type, Electric-type, and Bug-type attacks benefit from attack bonuses in raids.
  • When Primal Kyogre is your buddy, catching Water-type, Electric-type, and Bug-type Pokémon grant additional XP and Candy.
  • When Primal Groudon is in your party, Fire-type, Grass-type, and Ground-type attacks benefit from attack bonuses in raids.
  • When Primal Groudon is your buddy, catching Fire-type, Grass-type, and Ground-type Pokémon grant additional XP and Candy.
  • Kyogre and Groudon’s Primal Level increase the more times they revert to their primal forms, improving their bonuses.
  • Trainers can see a Pokémon’s Primal Level and the bonuses granted by that level by navigating to the Pokémon’s page and tapping the Primal Level icon.

Other Details

The Pokédex category for Mega Pokémon will be updated and include Pokémon that have undergone Primal Reversion.

Trainers can experience Primal Reversion for the first time during the Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn – Las Vegas, scheduled from February 18 to February 19.
