Pokémon GO Invites Everyone to Lunar New Year Event Starting January 19

The Lunar New Year 2023 is just around the corner and when that day comes, it's going to be a lot of fun. In Pokémon GO, there's a celebration happening from January 19 to January 23. During this period, Bunnelby and Buneary are set to appear more frequently in the wild. Meanwhile, trainers can also look forward to encountering other event-themed Pokémon not just in the wild but even in Raids and from hatching Eggs.

For the duration of the event, here are the bonuses:

  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Darumaka.
  • Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon in trades.
  • Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
  • 2× Stardust from opening Gifts.
  • One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two per day.
  • During the Lunar New Year event, trainers can choose from several bonuses as a reward for their Timed Research.

Lucky Wishes

For the duration of the event, there's a Timed Research available known as Lucky Wishes, with bonuses revolving around hatching eggs, collecting stardust, or the duration of Daily Adventure Incense. The path chosen determines which bonuses and tasks trainers have for the event.

The thing is, no matter which path the trainers pick, those able to finish the research receive a Lucky Egg and other items. They also have the chance to encounter these Pokémon:

  • Galarian Darumaka
  • Bunnelby

New Item

For the Lucky New Year 2023 event, the new avatar item Red Lantern Backpack is going to be available for trainers to buy in the in-game shop. The good news is that it continues to be offered even when the event ends.
