If you’re one of those excited about Minecraft Dungeons, it looks like the wait is almost over. This dungeon crawler is set to be released on May 26 for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. That’s not all the news today, as pre-orders for the game are now being accepted.

Minecraft Dungeons was initially slated to be released back in April, but was moved due to the changes brought about by the current pandemic.

So just what is Minecraft Dungeons all about? As mentioned, this is a dungeon crawler. Think The Bard’s Tale, Might and Magic, and Dungeon Master.

However, in relation to Minecraft, it’s going to be entirely different. While Minecraft is mainly about crafting and building, Minecraft Dungeons is going to have none of that. As a dungeon crawler, it means players get to explore dungeons that are randomly-generated that contain monsters that are randomly-generated as well. Of course there’s also going to be treasures, traps, and puzzles.

There’s also going to be missions in Minecraft Dungeons, which offer players procedural content mixed in with elements that tie in with the narrative and objectives. What this means is that while certain parts of the mission remain the same, the paths, mobs, and of course, the treasure, are going to be different every time.

One big difference this game has over those in the same genre is that it’s not going to have any class system. That means players can use any weapon they want to wield and even any armor that they want to wear. This feature is what makes it part of the Minecraft universe, so to speak. Minecraft is all about having your own playstyle and showing your own identity. This is what this new game also offers to everyone.

Minecraft Dungeons lets as many as four players explore dungeons either locally or through online multiplayer. There’s not going to be any matchmaking though. The reason is that this game was designed to be played together with friends.
