SNK finally gave everyone a peek at what’s coming with The King of Fighter 15 after releasing a trailer. As trailers go, it’s a good one as it truly ups the hype for this upcoming sequel. But what may top that is the confirmation of six characters.
Before we go more into this, you can watch the trailer below:
Considering that KOF 15 is a sequel to KOF 14, it’s going to again feature the same protagonist in Shun'ei. In KOF 14, it was discovered that he had a fragment of Verse’s power. When Verse was defeated, Shun’ei continued to train in order to keep his powers under control.
In addition to Shun'ei, the trailer also confirmed the return of five other characters: Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, Leona Heidern, K', and Mai Shiranui. You can view some of the official images here.
In a video announcement, KOF 15 Creative Director Eisuke Ogura shared that for this game, they wanted to make sure that it continued to have the fast-paced gameplay of its predecessors “while also adding elements to make it more exciting.” Although they didn’t really reveal those elements, it’s likely related to improvements in sound and visuals since they said they can now do things that were impossible even in KOF 14.
In terms of actual game development, Ogura revealed that the team is now focusing on optimizing the game as well as brushing up on some features. He also teased that they’re currently planning to release an animated promotional short anime. Though no other details were released, he said that the director is going to be “someone very special.”
You’re probably wondering who that special someone is and it turns out none other than Masami Obari. KOF fans should be familiar with him considering he was the director for Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, released in 1994.
KOF 15 is set to be released sometime this year. SNK, however, hasn't confirmed which platforms will run the game.
PlayStation players though have something to look forward to with the upcoming release of the King of Fighters 14 Ultimate Edition. It’s going to roll out on January 20 and is priced at $39.99. Read more about that here.
