Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, a surprise hit by Ninja Theory, received a major update yesterday. The 2021 Update brings tons of improvements to the base game. The patch went live for Xbox Series X|S back in August and had enhanced the gaming experience.

New Features

The patch brings the ray tracing feature to the game. It includes support for Ray-Traced Reflections and Ray-Traced Shadows. You can change RT settings to Low, Medium, or High. The update also brings support to new technologies like Nvidia DLSS 2.0 and AMD FSR. So, choose these options for a performance boost. DirectX 12 support has been added as well.

QoL changes

That’s not all. The update features several QoL changes as well. The game finally has a Chapter Select option, meaning you can replay your favorite part without playing the whole game again. You can now fully customize your controller and keyboard for an optimal experience too.

Subtitle customization has been introduced. You can now select subtitle color, size, and background. For colorblind players, the developer added presets for Deuteranopia, Protanopia, and Tritanopia.

Free Update

The update is completely free, and you can play the title via Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store. Game Pass subscribers can also enjoy the game without paying extra.

Unfortunately, this update isn’t coming to PlayStation anytime soon. It makes sense as Ninja Theory has been purchased by the competitor, Microsoft.

Sequel

The developer is currently busy with the development of the sequel, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. The sequel will utilize Unreal Engine 5 and will be set in Iceland. As with other Microsoft-owned games, it will be exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was released back in August 2017. You can play the game on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PS4. PS5 also supports the game via backward compatibility.

So what do you think? Are you interested in the update? Are you planning to play Hellblade again? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
