343 Industries, developer of the popular Halo franchise, has disclosed some details of the Season 8 “flight” for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The upcoming flight will add plenty of new content, improved custom games browser, file sharing, and much more.

Improved Custom Game Browser

The custom game browser was added in Season 7. For Seasons 8, the developers got plans to make improvements. Some of the things that you can expect are more custom game titles, an improved search function, and a better interface.

The developers are also looking to add a feature that allows you to join a queue when you are attempting to enter a game session that is already full.

More custom game titles mean that the devs will add Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3 into the mix. So, if you are a fan of those, then you will be in for a treat.

Aside from an improved custom game browser, those playing on PC will be able to take advantage of the file-sharing system, which allows them to share or download new game modes, screenshots, and custom maps.

Upcoming Flight

Before Season 8 launches, the developers will conduct a testing phase or “flight” to let players try the new things and provide feedback.

According to Tyler “Postums” Davis, community support and engagement director at 343 industries, some things in the upcoming flight may not be released in Season 8.

“As with our previous flights, there are some items in this list that won’t be releasing with Season 8 but are still areas of interest for the team as they continue to develop and iterate for the future,” he said.

Here are some of the new features and improvements coming to the Season 8 flight:

  • Halo: Reach Firefight update to include Firefight voice previews, more granular body type, and voice.
  • Custom Game Browser (CGB) for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3 as well as Phase 2 implementations which include updates to filters, search options, and overall improvements to the Create, Browse, and Session Details page.
  • Halo: Combat Evolved is seeing the return of the classic HUD with 4k support and a toggle in Settings.
  • View model offsets for weapons across all games in MCC.
  • Season 8 customization content includes nameplates globally.
  • Halo 3 content includes new armor, visors, back accessories, weapon and vehicles skins, and more.
  • Halo: Reach content includes new helmets.
  • File Share is now available for the PC platform with the ability to set trust levels for saving files (official, friends, untrusted) and an option to report inappropriate files.
  • Player Reporting has been added to additional areas including scoreboards post-match.
  • Accessibility features including improved subtitles (subtitle size, color, shadow color, and background color) and all-new color blindness options.
  • A new map for Halo 3, called Icebox has been added which is a remake of the classic Halo 2 map, Turf.
