ChinaJoy 2019 ramped up over the weekend, and with it another host of titles from China-based developers as the country’s biggest gaming expo is now on the verge of ending. There are tons of games that were featured over the past few days, so be sure to stick around for our coverage of everything announced at this event, especially seeing as China is starting to gain footing in video game development – and that means more great games for everyone.
Among the games featured at ChinaJoy 2019 is a cute side-scrolling beat ‘em up title from Chinese developer Puppet Depot Game Studio. Named Wonder Blade, the game will be launching on the PlayStation 4 and PC as announced by Chinese publisher east2westgame.
Wonder Blade tells the age-old story of an underdog tasked with freeing a damsel in distress, defeating the ultimate villain, and saving the world from darkness. Wonder Blade describes itself as “a fascinating tale of butt-kicking, love, and woe that doesn’t take itself too seriously”, and it is all too evident in its action-filled trailer.
With high-speed cart chases through the forest, a fishing competition in the ocean, hordes of zombies, and high-tech soldiers, it seems that the devs at Puppet Depot Game Studio weren’t planning on holding back on this action game. Aside from the whimsical adventures and the colorful characters that you will encounter, challenges also await you through a variety of stages and battles with bosses and mini-bosses. Succeeding gives you the option to upgrade you outfits and weapons, ranging from cool-looking gear to something completely outrageous (riding pigs, wielding a lightsaber or a fish), and also lets you unlock and upgrade your skills and abilities to keep up that sweet, sweet chain combo.
Wonder Blade is currently in Steam’s Early Access. For those who want to get a feel for the game first, it’s currently available on mobile devices (iOS and Android). If you like it, the game is expected to get its version 1.0 release two months from now. A release date of September 16 is posted its Steam page.
ChinaJoy 2019 began last Friday, and officially ended yesterday, August 5.
