Ubisoft and Facebook just confirmed the rumors about the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell series coming to Oculus VR. The games were announced during the Facebook Connect event on September 17, which was previously called Oculus Connect.
We don’t know what games specifically will come to Oculus VR as Ubisoft only teased us with some general images. Either way, we know Ubisoft will bring Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell to VR in some capacity, which alone is exciting enough for us.
What we know is that both games will be developed by Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment, who are well known for some of their earlier VR games such as Werewolves Within and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell will be co-developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Reflections. Stay tuned for more information from Ubisoft, as they might have more games for VR that they will announce later this year. The introduction of AAA games to platforms such as Oculus VR will encourage more players to jump into the VR landscape.
“We are always exploring new ways we can leverage technology to help us create memorable gaming experiences,” said Elizabeth Loverso, Vice President of Product Development, Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment in a post on the Ubisoft website. “Oculus’s state-of-the-art hardware will enable us to bring the worlds of Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell to life for fans in a new way. These games will take full advantage of Oculus’s technology to deliver immersive, visceral experiences that players won’t be able to find anywhere else.”
The Oculus Quest 2 will have better resolutions and controls compared to its predecessor. The Oculus Quest 2 will also support hand tracking, which allows players to manage most aspects of VR gaming without using any form of controls. You can find more details about the Oculus Quest 2 over here.
The Oculus Quest 2 is set to release on October 13 for $299.
