A new video for Yakuza 6 debuted on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, and it provides background information on the plot for those who haven’t played the previous Yakuza games. Warning: Yakuza series spoilers below.

The Yakuza games are all really, incredibly long. Unless you have the time to make it through the first six games (Yakuza 1 - 5 and the prequel Yakuza 0) this video is the best way to know what’s going on when you load up Yakuza 6. Also, the biggest spoilers are for Yakuza 5, so watching will not ruin any major surprises from 0 to 4.

However, for those who played the most recent installment, Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the original Yakuza , there will be some familiar characters playing central roles in Yakuza 6. Of course, series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu once again takes center stage along with a much older Haruka. In Kiwami, Haruka was a young child, but she has grown into a teenager who is in pursuit of fame and fortune as a pop idol.

At the end of Yakuza 5, Haruka runs away from her success as a pop star, deciding to stay by Kiryu’s side. This is happening just as Kiryu is getting shot by bad guys. Thankfully, Haruka makes it to Kiryu in time to get him to a hospital and save his life.

That’s where Yakuza 6 will pick up. While he’s in the hospital, police come and arrest Kiryu. He spends three years in prison, planning to retire and watch over his orphanage once out. However, once released from jail, Kiryu discovers Haruka has gone missing, and sets out to track her down.

Yakuza 6 will release for PS4 on March 20 in North America. It has been available in Japan since Dec. 8 of 2016.

So what do you think? Are you excited to return to the story of Kazuma Kiryu when Yakuza 6 releases? Will you play through all the previous games first to get caught up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
