Good news for fans of the Borderlands franchise. It looks like Tales from the Borderlands is making a comeback and the wait won’t be too long. The game is arriving on PC, as well as PlayStation and Xbox consoles, this Wednesday, February 17.
You’re probably wondering why all the excitement? The game was actually released back in 2014. It was made for PC, consoles, and even mobile platforms. However, when developer TellTale Games went under, Tales from the Borderlands was one of the many titles that were pulled from sale.
Even when it was pulled from stores, publisher 2K Games was looking for a new studio to take over. 2K Games had pretty much done the same with The Walking Dead series, bringing in Skybound Entertainment.
So who fans should thank for the game's comeback? It’s none other than Gearbox Software. Those familiar with the franchise and the company won’t be surprised with the move. That’s because Tales from the Borderlands , which happens sometime between Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3, is considered canon by Gearbox.
A Deal Gone Bad
The story focuses on two characters. The first is the con-artist Fiona who has plans to earn a fortune by selling a Vault Key, which is actually fake. Then there’s Rhys who Borderlands 3 players should be familiar with as the CEO of Atlas Corporation. But at this point, he’s merely a Hyperion employee that idolized the recently dead Handsome Jack and currently looking for a Vault Key. You probably know how things turn out.
The deal goes south as what one could expect in Borderlands . The thing is, how the story plays out is up to the players as they’re the ones who make the decisions.
About the Game
The entire game was released with five different episodes. For this particular release, there’s no need to buy each episode since all of them have been placed in one neat package:
- Episode 1 – Zer0 Sum
- Episode 2 – Atlas Mugged
- Episode 3 – Catch a Ride
- Episode 4 – Escape Plan Bravo
- Episode 5 – The Vault of the Traveler
If you’re one of those who played the original version, you can look for your save file and start immediately where you ended. Though the save and the platform must be the same. Luckily, the new version allows cross-generation save transfers for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
There’s no question that this game is a treat for both veterans and those new to the franchise. Get your copy of the game here.
