Star Wars: The Force Awakens rebooted an iconic franchise and the final scene of Rey and the elusive Jedi Luke Skywalker sets the stage for Episode 8. But that isn't the only cliffhanger – many theorists are devoted to finding Rey's parents and it looks like we'll finally learn the truth come Star Wars Episode 8.

While promoting her new documentary The Eagle Huntress, actress Daisy Ridley spoke with Vulture and dropped some hints about her character Rey:

“We will see in a year," Ridley teased when Vulture asked if Rey was a Kenobi. "Just sit tight on that question.”

She didn't confirm or deny her ties to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but she does hint that the answer lies in Episode 8, which arrives in 2017. Give her strong control over the Force, other theories suggest Rey could be a Skywalker or a Solo. In fact, a recent theory proposed Rey is related to Rogue One's Jyn Erso.

However, it looks like we can dismiss that theory since the notion caught Ridley completely off-guard (no one is that great of an actor, right?):

“I mean, I think historically it wouldn’t work, because she is … Darth Vader is there … so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma … I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away.”

Rey's parents are a compelling mystery and it looks like we won't learn the answer quite yet. That said, Star Wars: Episode 9 director Colin Trevorrow promises one thing:

“We’re going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying," Trevorrow said to ET at the BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party earlier this year. "Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy. She deserves it. We’ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we’re just telling you what happened.”
