Massive Damage, the developer behind Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander, has recently teased its upcoming title Star Renegades.

Star Renegades is a rogue-lite tactical strategy RPG that tells the story of an intergalactic rebellion that spans generations. In a nice lore-friendly twist to typical rogue-lites, failure is all part of the game. The death of players’ heroes in Star Renegades only sets the stage for the next generation of rebels to try and defeat a constantly changing and growing galactic empire.

Massive Damage looks like its building upon the mechanics, features, and game stylings that made Halcyon 6 such a popular title. Hopefully Star Renegades will be a worthwhile successor that does justice to Massive Damage’s successful formula, while introducing new concepts and mechanics to keep the experience fresh and unique.

If you haven’t heard of Halcyon 6, it was a hit indie game from developer Massive Damage that released back in 2016. Halcyon 6, as described by Massive Damage, is a “retro space strategy RPG with base building, deep tactical combat, crew management and emergent storytelling.” Star Renegades is Massive Damage’s first project since the release of Halcyon 6, and even with a similar retro art style and design direction, Star Renegades is shaping up to be an innovative title. Combining the tactical strategy of turn-based combat with deep character progression, rogue-lite replayability, and compelling storytelling, Star Renegades brings to the table some of the best features of three distinct gaming genres.

Following in the footsteps of Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander and other similar rogue-lite games set in space, Star Renegades is sure to appeal to fans of Faster Than Light, Into The Breach, the XCOM franchise, and even the popular mobile game, Pixel Starships. As our fellow gamers, what do you think about Star Renegades so far? It may be still in its early stages of development, but what are the features and mechanics that you hope to see in the upcoming title? Let us know in the comments section below!
