Squid Game Rip-Off Available on Steam and It Looks Fun

Something something light.
Something something light. Dani

From a TV show that nobody would touch for more than a decade, Squid Game has since become a global and cultural sensation. Some shows usually capitalize on this increase in fame by offering content in other media like a video game. So it’s rather surprising that there’s nothing to that sort being announced yet.

If you’re a fan of the show, we have a piece of really interesting news for you. There’s actually a video game that’s a knock-off, a rip-off, or a parody of the show. Care to guess the title? It’s called Crab Game and that alone should give you a clue on what to expect.

Game Features

The game was created by a solo developer named Dani. This is not his first game. He has another titled Muck launched back in June. Crab Game was released on Steam last October 29 and can be played for free.

Crab Game describes itself as a first-person multiplayer game. Players get to fight in different mini-games based on children’s games to be the last one standing and claim the ultimate cash prize. On its Steam page, Dani posts that the game isn’t “based on any online streaming pop culture Korean TV shows” since it would surely get him in “legal trouble.”

Features of the game include:

  • Up to 35 players
  • 28 Maps
  • 9 Game-modes
  • Server List
  • Milk

Small Patch

Since the release, Dani has actually made interesting changes to the game. For one, the server can now actually accommodate more than 35 players. He went on to say that if the game continues to play without any lag, he’s going to slowly increase the player cap. Some other interesting changes are:

  • Optimized networking and bandwidth usage so servers should hopefully hold up better now.
  • Chat can now be turned off in Game Settings.
  • Lobby names now use a profanity filter.
  • Updated some of the music.
  • When typing in chat, players no longer move around.
  • Crouch spamming has been nerfed.
