Following its release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC last June, the shoot and slash dungeon crawler Riverbond will now be making its way to the Nintendo Switch, as announced by its developer Cococucumber. The title was featured in the last State of Play by Sony back in May, where a lot of the game’s features and characters were revealed.
Riverbond features a voxel-based world and art style, which gives it a blocky feel akin to Minecraft and Portal Heroes. The game can be played by up to four people in a cooperative mode. As part of the game’s announcement for the Switch, Cococucumber also released an announcement trailer for the Switch, which came with a nice surprise for all platforms. Check it out below.
As shown in the trailer, Riverbond will be getting a DLC in the form of a new world, which will release alongside the Switch launch sometime later this year. This new world features slimes, traps, and a whole host of new enemies and bosses. It’s unknown if this downloadable content will come as a free update to the game, or if it will be sold separately.
As for the game itself, Riverbond sits on a Mostly Positive rating on Steam. The game features fully destructible environments as a party of four players – or solo, if you wish – explore various levels in search of epic treasure. There are eight playable worlds in total, with various levels in between; the DLC adds one more playable world to the mix which introduces brand new mechanics and features.
Riverbond is played from a top-down perspective with different characters. You can either wield melee weapons to slash your way to victory, or ranged ones for a hit-and-run strategy. The game features eight characters from other independent titles, such as:
- Robot 05 from Planet of the Eyes
- Demelza from Knights and Bikes
- Lover Mu from Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
- Juan Aguacate from Guacamelee!
- The Kid from Bastion
- Raz Aquato from Psychonauts
- Shovel Knight from Shovel Knight
- Bullet Kin from Enter the Gungeon
Riverbond is making its way to the Nintendo Switch later this year. The game is available to play right now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
