Prison Architect Launching Island Bound Expansion On June 11

If you think you have managing prisons down pat, Prison Architect is upping the ante with its upcoming expansion. In Island Bound, players can now develop prisons without the need for an access road. This being an expansion, players can expect it to be seamlessly integrated with the current gameplay while also expanding the base Prison Architect with new features like more buildings, construction opportunities, security options, and even prison customization. The Island Bound expansion is set to be released on June 11 for both consoles and the PC.

In a post, Prison Architect Product Manager Steacy McIlwham said that the expansion was first teased during PDXCON 2019 and players have since been speculating what it was all about. She added that Island Bound is the “first all-original, full-fledged, content expansion for Prison Architect since Paradox purchased the IP in 2019.” McIlwham ended by saying that they are happy to offer this expansion to all players of the game on PC and console, which is “a first in Prison Architect history.”

As mentioned, the new expansion is set to offer new features. The first is Sea and Air. With this, players should be able to upgrade the logistics of their prison using ferry and helicopter transport options. These allow players to deliver supplies and inmates directly to docking areas positioned around the compound. However, this also means that there are more access points that prisoners can use to sneak in contraband.

Supermax Security is also a new feature that adds new security objects that make searching deliveries and prisoners that much easier. There’s also additional emergency services that players can call on when needed like Elite Ops Teams, Air Paramedics, and Air Firefighters.

The Island Life feature, meanwhile, allows players to customize their island. They can even use Connected Island Plots that offer more than fifteen nautical tiles and objects. With no access roads needed, players can choose to use moats, lakes, and rivers for security.

Finally, players can also take on The Rock. Considered the most famous prison in the world, The Rock comes with two premade maps which are Alcatraz Island and Alcatraz Prison.

So what about you? Are you as excited as we are with this new expansion?
