Prison Architect announced that its Psych Ward: Warden’s Edition expansion is going to be released to the PC on November 21 of this year. The expansion is going to be available for $5.99.

Some players may be familiar with the name Psych Ward, which is a game that has been available for consoles since 2017. However this new update is going to have content not available on the console version. Psych Ward: Warden’s Edition is also the first expansion for Prison Architect since it was bought by Paradox Interactive back in January of this year. The expansion itself is being developed by Double Eleven.

The expansion offers unpredictable inmates with new behaviors along with additional management features. It also gives players more ways to customize their prisons. In addition, it has features found on the console version while adding new ones like padded solitary cells and floors, upgrades for the Psychiatrist office, an additional warden, among many others.

Overall, key features of Psych Ward: Warden’s Edition include:

  • Plead Insanity
    • Criminally insane inmates are unpredictable and thus need special care.
    • When building your prison, you need to take into account the Reputation traits of inmates.
    • You can choose to lock them in their own padded cells or let them co-exist with the general population.
  • Shrinks
    • To keep things under control, prisons holding criminally insane inmates need to have a team of Psychiatrists along with trained Orderlies.
    • These prison staff can sedate otherwise rowdy prisoners or when the need arises, pull out the straitjackets.
  • Doctor’s Note
    • Provide counseling to the criminally insane using your new Psychiatrist’s Office and new consultation programs.
    • Improve sessions by upgrading the office with leather sofas, medicine cabinets, and even adding Rorschach tests.
  • Good Behavior
    • Inmates now have a wide range of behaviors players need to manage.
    • Inmates may start out harmless but if left untreated, they can turn violent or attempt to escape.
  • It’s Gone Viral
    • Treat your regular inmates with care.
    • Subjecting inmates to excessive suppression or punishment can cause them to turn criminally insane.
  • Extra Padding
    • The expansion adds padded cells and padded floors along with a bundle of other new objects, floors, and wall types to customize your prison.
    • With this you can easily build a dedicated wing for the criminally insane.
  • Tools of the Trade
    • Additional contraband, including Adrenaline Shots, Fountain Pens (Shanks), and Gold Pocket Watches, can be stolen by your prisoners, or by you in Escape Mode.

Steacy McIIwham, Product Manager for Prison Architect at Paradox Interactive, revealed in a press release that the expansion was developed to enhance the existing gameplay mechanics of Prison Architect and give players new and interesting ways to experience the game. McIlwham went on to say that “[e]ach feature in this expansion brings its own set of scenarios and opportunities that require players to get creative with their prison management" and concluded that the expansion is simply the beginning "of our plans for Prison Architect, we have much more in the works that you’ll hear about soon.”

Both Paradox and Double Eleven also announced that an additional Prison Architect expansion is currently in development and expected to be released 2020.
