Who's that Pokémon?
Who's that Pokémon? Niantic

Pokémon Go revealed that for the August Community Day, the featured Pokémon is going to be none other than Magikarp. There are those who claim that this Fish Pokémon is underpowered, and even pathetic, considering that it’s usually an easy target for predators. However, Magikarp can leap over mountains and is able to survive in any body of water, even if the same body of water is polluted.

The August Community Day is scheduled for August 8 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, local time.

During this Community Day, Magikarp is set to appear more frequently in the wild and Trainers lucky enough may get to encounter a Shiny Magikarp. In addition, Trainers that evolve Magikarp during the event can get a Gyarados that knows Aqua Tail. Take note that it’s going to need some amount of Candy in order to evolve. Not to worry though, since there is an event-exclusive Field Research task that lets everyone earn extra Magikarp Candies.

Trainers can also take some snapshots during the event to receive a surprise.

There is also the August Community Day Box that is available for a one-time purchase. It’s going to have 30 Ultra Balls, an Elite Charged TM, six Star Pieces, and an Incense.

For the event itself, Trainers have the chance to follow Professor Willow as he learns more about Magikarp. This is going to be made possible through the exclusive Special Research story known as Making a Splash. Tickets are available for $1 and are non-refundable.
