By now you should know that Pokémon Go Fest 2020 is all set for this weekend. However, we won’t be talking about that today. Instead, we’re looking into what’s happening after the big event. This is because Season 2 of the Go Battle League is almost ending with Season 3 slated to start on Monday, July 27 at 4:00 PM EDT.

Before we look into what to expect with Season 3, let’s take a quick look at Season 2. During this period, Trainers that managed to reach rank 10 received a fun new avatar pose. In addition, this season saw the introduction of the Premier Cup format. This was so well received that it’s going to return in Season 3.

Changes coming to Season 3 include:

  • More cups are going to be added.
    • One of this is the Flying Cup where only Flying-type Pokémon are allowed.
  • Battle Until You Win has been removed.
    • This is based on Trainer feedback.
  • Guaranteed reward encounters are going to be a bit different for Season 3. These are the Pokémon that Trainers can encounter at each listed rank:
    • Pidgeot starting at rank 1
    • Galarian Zigzagoon starting at rank 4
    • Galarian Farfetch’d starting at rank 7
    • Rufflet starting at rank 8
    • Scraggy starting at rank 9
    • Pikachu Libre starting at rank 10
  • Those who reach rank 10 get to earn a brand-new avatar pose and avatar item.
  • For the premium rewards track, Trainers now earn Rare Candies after their fourth win.
    • The number of Rare Candies rewarded has been lowered from eight to six.
  • Trainers who finish Season 3 at rank 7 or higher receive an Elite Charged TM rather than an Elite Fast TM.
    • Besides this change, end-of-season rewards remain the same as in Season 2.

If you think those changes are a lot, not to worry since these are going to stay in Season 3:

  • There’s going to be no walking requirement in order to battle in the Go Battle League.
  • The Friendship level requirement for battling remotely remains at Good Friends throughout Season 3.
  • The avatar items inspired by Pikachu Libre continue to be rank 7 rewards.
  • The battles, wins, and ratings required to reach ranks remain the same.

As already mentioned, Season 3 starts Monday. Below are the schedule for Season 3:

  • The Great League runs from July 27 at 4:00 PM to August 10 at 4:00 PM EDT.
  • The Ultra League and its Premier Cup runs from August 10 at 4:00 PM to August 24 at 4:00 PM EDT.
    • The Premier Cup is going to have a 2500 CP limit.
  • The Master League and its Premier Cup runs from August 24 at 4:00 PM to September 7 at 4:00 PM EDT.
    • The Premier Cup is going to have no CP limit.
  • All three leagues and the Premier Cup (no CP limit) is going to be available from September 7 at 4:00 PM to September 14 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
  • Season 4 starts September 14 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Developer Niantic reminded everyone that the dates mentioned remain to be tentative and updates are going to be released for any changes.

What do you think? Ready for Go Battle Season 3?
