'Pokémon Go' Fest 2026 Goes Free Worldwide With Mega Mewtwo X and Y Debut, Super Mega Raid Battles

Mewtwo's Mega Evolutions will join the celebration soon.

"Pokémon Go" players will receive free access to the global version of Go Fest 2026 as the popular mobile game celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The worldwide event is scheduled for July 11 and July 12, marking a major shift from previous years, where participation required a paid ticket. This time, all trainers will gain access to Special Research tasks, boosted Shiny encounter rates, and event-exclusive content without additional cost.

Mega Mewtwo X and Y Make Their Debut

Niantic

One of the biggest additions to Go Fest 2026 is the arrival of Mega Mewtwo in both its X and Y forms. Trainers will battle the powerful Pokémon through newly introduced Super Mega Raids, which are designed for large-scale participation.

After successful raids, players can catch Mewtwo and receive Mega Energy tied specifically to either the X or Y evolution path.

The dual-form release introduces a more strategic layer to Mega Evolution gameplay, encouraging players to decide which form they want to prioritize.

Mega Energy System Receives Major Changes

According to IGN, Niantic is also updating how Mega Energy functions for Mega Mewtwo. Unlike earlier Mega Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and Y will use separate energy pools, requiring trainers to collect different resources for each form.

Mega Level progression will also be divided between the two evolutions, though existing progress from prior Mega systems will reportedly carry over.

These adjustments are expected to increase long-term raid participation while giving dedicated players more progression goals.

Global and In-Person Events Planned

Before the worldwide celebration begins, several in-person Go Fest events will take place in cities including Chicago, Copenhagen, and Tokyo. Reports indicate that the Tokyo event is already nearing full capacity.

These live gatherings will feature massive Super Mega Raids involving over 1,000 participants simultaneously, creating one of the largest raid experiences in the game's history.

New Pokémon, Shinies, and Anniversary Rewards

Go Fest 2026 will also introduce several exclusive additions, including Zeraora, new costume Pikachu variants, Shiny Wash Rotom, and regional Pokémon such as Comfey and Tauros.

A limited-edition Caterpie wearing a Pokéball hat is also expected to become a standout collectible during the event.
