'Mixed' on Steam
As of writing, "Borderlands 4" has more than 48,000 user reviews on Steam, which have categorized them as "Mixed."
"Great game, but optimization is really poor," CoDroStyle said in a Steam review. "I am playing on 5120x1440 with a brand new rig. RTX5080 / Ryzen 7 7800X3D / 64G RAM with Frame Gen x2 and can barely pull 60 fps with noticeable stuttering and frame drops on max settings."
"Good story, fun gameplay, horrible optimization," DR Iceman1983 said in a separate review.
"I'm running a 4080S, 7950X, Samsung 990 4tb SSD, DDR5 6000 64gb, on a X670E mobo. Using high settings, DLSS quality mode and getting 65-80fps consistently," DR Iceman1983 added. "It should be more but the game is optimized poorly, and the cutscenes are locked at 30fps. I don't understand how it's this bad."
3.4 Stars on Google Reviews
Over at Google Reviews, "Borderlands 4" has an average rating of 3.4 stars as of writing.
"I've played 'Borderlands' 1, 2, the Presequel, 3, and now I'm about halfway through this campaign," Google user Jamie Lynn said in a review. "So far, it's a big step above 'Borderlands 3' story wise, gameplay wise, and feels like a 'Borderlands' game in many ways."
"The writing and humor are back to the old enjoyable stuff, and the weapons and combat feel great without being a slide fest," Lynn added. "My only gripes are the UI being a bit too bland and out of artstyle of the game really."
"I'm about 8 hours in, and I've been enjoying the hell out of my run so far," Chris Lortz said in a separate Google review. "It does take some adjusting to as there have been some changes to the visuals and how your inventory and load out screens work, but once you get the hang of it, no worries!"
