'Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight' Reviews: Is It a Hit or a Miss for Gamers and Critics?

Lego has released a number of video games through the years that it could be hard to pick which one to start with if you've yet to play any of them.

But if you're one of those interested to see what the "Lego" video games are all about, the most recent release is a good place to start. Why? It's become a hit for both critics and gamers alike.

Here's what you have to know about "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight."

'Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight'

Released on May 22, 2026, "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" is developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Games.

It is the fourth entry in the "Lego Batman" video game series and features an original story based on "Batman" comic books, films, and other media.

Aside from Bruce Wayne / Batman, other playable characters who make an appearance in this game include Jim Gordon, Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Dick Grayson / Robin / Nightwing, Barbara Gordon / Batgirl, and Talia al Ghul.

No "Batman" story will ever be complete without Alfred Pennyworth and Lucius Fox. Both likewise appear in "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight."

What Do the Critics Say?

Not all "Lego" video games have fared well in the past, so what do the critics have to say about "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?"

IGN has scored the game an eight out of ten. "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a lovingly made, often hilarious take on both Batman's movie and video game history alike," the publication said in its review. "It remixes classic moments from almost every film, with deeper cuts from the Caped Crusader's comic book beginnings, too."

IGN further describes the game as "A largely successful attempt at sophisticating Lego combat that suffers a bit from repetitive, one-note encounter design, combined with a good mixture of puzzles, powers its homage-laden levels."

Metacritic has given "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" a score of 84 based on 76 critic reviews as of writing.

Giving the game a score of 80, Hardcore Gamer said "'LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight' does Batman proud and is a rare case where the Dark Knight deserves to step out of the shadows."

GAMINGbible gave it a perfect score of 100, noting that "The game's perfectly crafted open-world and varied mission design don't simply just make it a blast to play; it also makes the game very good value for money, and that goes a long way these days."

'Overwhelmingly Positive' Reviews on Steam

Now that we know what critics have to say, how about gamers? Well, "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" has more than 9,800 reviews on Steam as of press time. The platform has categorized these reviews as "Overwhelmingly Positive."

"This is, by far, the best 'LEGO' game ever made," Steam user zeus said in a review. "As for a 'Batman' game...? A very worthy spiritual successor to the 'Arkham' titles."

User BenTen said in a separate review that "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" is a "Really good 'Lego' game and really good 'Batman' game, even if I've often had issues with the interaction system, and the open world design who felt too much like a Ubisoft game unfortunately for me."
