The latest update for Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile is now available, and it’s a pretty good one. Patch 3.17.4 introduces a beta version of the new DirectX 12 renderer. Controller improvements have also been implemented.

For those who don't know, you can change Path of Exile’s renderer to DirectX 12 or Vulkan in the graphics options. That said, the new DX12 renderer is now available and you can test it out right away. Early reports indicate that this version makes the game feel smoother with fewer stutters than before.

While the DX12 implementation vastly improved in Patch 3.17.4, the Vulkan renderer is no slouch either, which is no longer in beta, so it should be more stable now. Again, you’d have to try either of these options to see which one works best for you.

Anyway, the developers added some improvements to controllers. One of the most notable is that you can now manage your party and teleport to your party members via the Escape menu. A “Party Invites” section has been added to the Escape menu in controller input mode as well.

Patch Highlights

  • Added Controller navigation to the "Create Party" and "Public Parties" sections of the Social Screen
  • Added a keybind for confirming your status message in the Social Screen
  • Added a keybind for the "Allow friends to visit your Hideout" to the Hideout decorations panel in Controller input mode
  • Fixed a bug where you could not unsocket gems from items whilst the Crafting Bench user interface was open in Controller input mode
  • Fixed a bug where you were unable to use the "Offer Item" keybind when trading with other players outside of Towns or Hideouts
  • Scouting Reports are now able to stack up to 5,000 in the Currency Stash Tab
  • Added stat descriptions for Sextant modifiers that were missing them and improved some other Sextant stat descriptions
  • Improved the performance of the Celestial Frost Bomb Effect microtransaction
  • Fixed a bug where the chance for Slain Monsters to drop an additional Scroll of Wisdom modifier on the Perandus Signet Unique Ring only affected Rare Monsters
  • Fixed a bug where you were unable to purchase Expedition Artifacts from Dannig if your inventory was full
  • Fixed a bug where Fractured and Synthesized items were not grayed out in your inventory when selling them to a vendor, or when filtered out in your stash
