Blizzard's Overwatch pumps out lore often enough to have a dedicated following in the game's millions-strong fanbase. However, in case the regularly scheduled comics and short stories about Overwatch's interesting universe and doubly-interesting cast of characters isn't enough, there's good news on the horizon. Blizzard Entertainment has partnered with Scholastic to publish The Hero of Numbani, the first in a series of young adult novels based on the Overwatch universe.

The Hero of Numbani was written with the inputs from the Overwatch game development team alongside the critically-acclaimed author Nicky Drayden. Based on the description provided in the leaked Amazon listing, the book will feature the teenage engineer Efi Oladele - credited for creating everybody's favorite Mom-bot, Orisa. The story tells of the conflict between Doomfist and the city of Numbani, as well as the events leading up to the creation of Orisa. We can expect other Overwatch characters to make an appearance as well, as shown in this section of the book's description:

This action-packed novel features the fan-favorite characters Efi, Orisa, Doomfist, and Lúcio in an all-new, original story straight from the minds of the Overwatch game team and critically acclaimed author Nicky Drayden!

Featuring an entirely original story, fans are definitely excited to find out more about their favorite characters, especially since The Hero of Numbani will be set prior to the current game timeline. And since it's Blizzard we're talking about here - and the book is being written alongside the game's developers - we can expect there to be plenty of continuity without the usual plotholes some might expect from a novel adaptation of a video game.

One of the most intriguing parts of this finding is that The Hero of Numbani is only the first in a series of similarly-themed novels aimed at young adults. That means that the future holds plenty of possibilities for the game's captivating, but still mysterious, lore. Will we get to see into the backstories of enigmatic characters such as Soldier: 76 and Reaper? What mysteries will we be able to unveil? The possibilities are endless.

The Hero of Numbani releases in May 2020.
