The Overlord expansion for Stellaris: Console Edition has finally arrived. This expansion focuses on deeper empire management and features specialized vassals to powerful new megastructures. Overlord is included as part of the Stellaris Expansion Pass Five.

One of the new features from this new expansion are vassalization mechanics, which let players specialize their subjects into economic powerhouses, defensive bulwarks, or technological masterminds. Players can also negotiate the terms of their subjects’ Vassal Contracts and have the ability to subsidize their income, restrict their expansion, and construct buildings on their worlds, to name a few.

Other new content to enjoy are:

  • New Origins
    • Imperial Fiefdom
      • Players start as the subject of an advanced AI empire.
    • Teachers of the Shroud
      • Everyone begins as a Latent Psionic species in contact with the mysterious Shroudwalker Enclave.
    • Slingshot to the Stars
      • Players get to discover the source of ancient lights in the night sky.

      • Players can choose one of their own fleets to lease out to other Empires.

      • This can be used as extra starbase capacity or further boost the economy of the planet.
    • Quantum Catapult
      • Sends fleets on a one-way trip across the galaxy.
      • Can ignore closed borders and hostile empires that would stand in the way and launch the ultimate surprise attack.
    • Hyper Relay Network

Multiple Holdings

In the game, Holdings are buildings owned by the overlord but established on a subject’s planet. In Overlord, additional holding building options are introduced along with the ability to build multiple holdings in a single vassal’s space.

Holdings give the players ability to change the subject’s opinion of them, so they must choose wisely. For example, they can decide to be a benevolent overlord or someone who has a tight grip on the reins of power. What the subjects think of players are determined by their actions.

Stellaris: Console Edition is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
