Witcher fans are going to have a ton of games to play in the next few years, and one of them is a remake of a title that started it all. The original Witcher game, released in 2007, is getting a full-fledged remake treatment.

The remake will be “built from the ground up” using Unreal Engine 5 and Polish studio Fool’s Theory will handle the development of the project. The said studio also staffs several veteran Witcher series devs, so they are well-versed with the universe.

The official blog reveals that currently the remake is in the early stages of development and devs won’t talk about it for a while. So, it’s going to be sometime before fans even see a trailer, let alone the release date.

The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED.

Other Witcher Games

The remake was codenamed Canis Majoris, one of five upcoming games previously revealed by CD Projekt. The company is currently developing another Witcher title codenamed Polaris, which will be the start of the next saga. Polaris will have two more sequels to be released within six years of its launch.

In other news, the critically acclaimed title The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a free next-gen update. The exact release date isn’t known at the moment but devs claimed that it will arrive later this year. We will let you know when more information is revealed.

Cyberpunk fans also have more to look forward to. An expansion for CP 2077 is currently in development along with a full-fledged sequel.
