The next-gen upgrade of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt finally has a release window. The upgrade will arrive in the last quarter of this year, sometime between October and December. The actual release date hasn’t been provided yet.

About the Upgrade

The next-gen upgrade of the critically acclaimed game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Owners of the game on these platforms will receive the upgrade for free. That’s really nice of CD Projekt. Witcher 3 was released back in 2015, and even after seven years, the developer is still launching content for free.

You can expect a lot of changes from the upgrade, including better loading time, ray tracing, and superior graphics. Whether it will feel like a remaster is yet to be seen. We also know that the next-gen upgrade will contain an armor set inspired by the Netflix TV Show. I hope we get more content as well.

About the Game

As mentioned above, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released back in 2015 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Nintendo Switch version was released in 2019. The game received several small DLCs and two massive story expansion packs.

The base game and its story DLCs received critical reception from fans and critics. It is considered one of the best games ever made and has won several GOTY awards. The game was also a major financial success, and as of April 2022, it had sold over 40 million copies.

Future

It seems like CD Projekt isn’t done with the Witcher IP yet. The developer is currently working on a new Witcher game, and the only thing we know is that it will use Unreal Engine 5. It’s also a good guess to assume that we will have a new protagonist as Geralt's story is finished. However, we don’t have a release window for the upcoming game.
