New State of Play Happening Next Week Seems Likely

During these last few weeks, many video game companies have revealed what they are up to, except Sony. The said company did have a State of Play early this month. However, it was heavily focused on third-party titles, and we didn’t see any of the PlayStation big heavy hitters.

According to prominent leaker Tom Henderson, a new State of Play happening next week seems highly likely, with several hints to it. Sony has a lot of stuff coming out in the next few months, so an event happening soon isn’t out of the question.

The Claims

Kazunori Yamauchi, the producer of Gran Turismo 7, has revealed that an update for GT7 is coming next week. This might not be much proof, however, combining that with the details below will show a different picture.

Henderson also claimed that Sony is going to reveal some new hardware next week. Jason Schreier, a respected game journalist, has claimed that the release date of God of War Ragnarok will be revealed later this month. Meanwhile, The Last of Us Part 1 is also launching this September, so the marketing of the game should start soon.

There are also a few Sony games coming to PC soon. If the event takes place, we could finally know more about Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. The PC port of the said game was revealed in September 2021, and even after nine months, we don’t have an actual release date.

More information about the PC version of Spider-Man Remastered could be revealed as its release month, August, is nearing. Several screenshots of the PC version of Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Returnal were leaked a few weeks ago. An SOP event would be a great place to officially announce them.

State of Play, Not PlayStation Showcase

Last year PlayStation Showcase, a bigger Sony event, took place in September. While there’s a good chance that the same could happen this year, a smaller event, like the State of Play seems a no-brainer, given how close all the Sony games are releasing.

Keep in mind that no event has been announced as of yet. So take all of this with a grain of salt.
