The NES Classic Edition is one of the hottest consoles on the market. Nintendo’s miniature nostalgia console brings 30 classic pre-loaded games to consumers for the price of one newer game. Now, it seems some intrepid hackers have found a way to put more games in the Mini NES Classic.

According to Russian hacker Madmonkey on reddit, adding more games to your NES Classic Edition is really straightforward. All that is required is to have a game saved in the first Super Mario Bros. slot, connect the NES Classic Edition to a computer with the included USB cable and boot up the console into FEL mode.

Once all of these preparations are complete, a user simply has to follow the instructions found on the reddit thread.

As with jailbreaking or hacking any system or phone, there is always a risk for “bricking” your device or console and this is no different. If you don’t know what you’re doing, there is a higher risk of something going wrong and the loss of your console.

After the instructions for hacking the NES Classic Edition popped up online, plenty of videos showing off the Mini NES with more than the 30 pre-loaded games have appeared.

Before the release of the NES Classic Edition, Nintendo said the console wouldn’t have the ability to buy and add games.

While the NES Classic Edition is one of the highly sought-after consoles right now, the shortage of units has been a big story since its release in November. Hopefully the Nintendo Switch won’t have that issue.

So what do you think of the idea of hacking your NES Classic Edition to add more games? Is it worth the risk of bricking your console? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
