Another chance for players to catch the popular Pokemon. Niantic

Good news to all Pokémon Go players out there – you will still be able to encounter Mewtwo in EX Raids. However, keep in mind that the Legendary Psychic Pokémon is only making a brief return to the game.

Niantic is bringing back Mewtwo to the standard Raid Battles in Pokémon Go for a special event. The event is basically the Legendary Raid Hour event, which is happening tonight only. This should give you another chance at capturing the rare Psychic-type Pokémon capable of using the Psystrike attack.

The Mewtwo Raid Hour in Pokémon Go will take place across the world from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time (depending on your time zone). During this small window of time, Mewtwo Raids are expected to take place at most local Gyms. And unlike the aforementioned EX Raids, which are going to require you have an invitation, your only goal is to have a Raid Pass in order to join a standard Raid Battle. Fortunately for you, you can get this pass for free when you spin the Photo Disc at a Gym, although you are only allowed to take one free pass at a time.

If you are wondering why the Mewtwo Raid event is special, then you have come to the right place. The Mewtwo you can currently encounter in EX Raids is capable of offering the Ghost-type attack Shadow Ball. As for the other version that is going to appear at Gyms tonight, it is capable of giving you the Psystrike attack. It is a very powerful Psychic-type attack that made its way to the Pokémon universe in Pokémon Black and White.

On top of that, Pokémon Go players will also have the opportunity to encounter a Shiny Mewtwo during event. Sure, your chances at encountering one – let alone capturing it – are slim. But if you are really hoping to add this Shiny version of Mewtwo to your collection, then your best bet is to participate in as many Raids as possible.
