In E3 2019, a select number of media outlets were given the opportunity to check out a short gameplay demo for upcoming superhero action game Marvel’s Avengers behind closed doors. Well, it was only a matter of time before it leaked and leaked it has, as we’ve seen an almost seven-minute clip of Marvel’s Avengers, taken during a showing at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.

The seven-minute video starts off with thunder god Thor’s gameplay. It begins with what looks like an interactive cutscene with Iron Man and ends with Thor throwing the iconic Mjolnir to the ground. It showcases Thor just manhandling tons of baddies, throwing his mighty hammer and commanding it to come back. It also showed off a couple of mechanics such as combat without Thor’s trusty weapon. Thor’s gameplay was punctuated by what looked like his ultimate ability: striking everyone in an area with lightning and lifting enemies off the ground with miniature tornadoes. This sequence introduced Iron Man into the fray, providing minimal air support then transitioning to a dog fight in the skies. What was notable is that there was no pause in the action.

Here is where we get to clearly see where the game will be set: San Francisco. As Iron Man is giving chase to a couple of bad guys in jetpacks, below him is just utter carnage with explosions and flying debris everywhere. Amidst all this chaos is Iron Man shooting his weapons whilst flying, then landing on the makeshift battlefield that is the Golden Gate Bridge. Here we can see combat, which mostly focused on ranged offense, either while in the air or on the ground.

Concluding the secretly filmed footage is a conversation between Bruce Banner and the Black Widow aboard a jet. This then leads to Bruce jumping off the jet and while falling from the sky, transforming in the Incredible Hulk, pummeling enemies with ease and even using one unfortunate henchmen as a makeshift weapon. The leak cuts off after that so it’s unfortunate we weren’t able to see Black Widow in action

For those who are itching for more Marvel’s Avengers action, preferably a clip that isn’t surreptitiously filmed on a smartphone, you may have to do a little more waiting. Plans to release the gameplay footage to the public is scheduled for a week after gamescom 2019, which will be on August 20 to 24.

Marvel’s Avengers will launch on May 15, 2020 for the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Google Stadia.
