Lucy Liu Lends Her Voice to VR Game The Pirate Queen: A Forgotten Legend

Are you ready for the arrival of the queen? Singer Studios

Award-winning actress Lucy Liu is adding another feather to her cap as she lends her voice to the puzzle adventure VR game The Pirate Queen: A Forgotten Legend. In fact, she'll be voicing none other than the main character, the Pirate Queen. However, that's not her only role because she's also serving as the game's executive producer. The new title is being developed by Singer Studios.

The game is set to make its debut on Steam VR and Quest 2. This immersive adventure title follows the forgotten story of the legendary Cheng Shih. Considered as one of the most successful pirates in history, she was known for using her wit and strategy when navigating obstacles. Despite her humble beginnings, she later became a leader who commanded a fleet of 70,000 across the South China Sea sometime in the 19th century.

The game narrative offers players the chance to experience an exciting journey of stealth, cunning, and daring maritime exploits. It is further taken to a different level through a visually stunning art style. But the game isn't just about a rich narrative experience as it also boasts themes of diversity and female empowerment.

In a statement, Director Eloise Singer shared that Lucy' performance as the Pirate Queen is indeed exceptional. She added that the ability of Lucy to convey depth and nuance to the character resulted in Cheng Shih having layers of complexity. She went on to say that this made the Pirate Queen a character that wasn't only memorable but truly compelling.

Lucy Liu revealed that she's excited to bring new life to the forgotten story of fascinating women, one who had incredible resilience and tenacity. She also said that this is the first time she has had to express a character through immersive storytelling.

The Pirate Queen: A Forgotten Legend features a wide range of gameplay mechanics unique to VR. The game offers players a diverse experience including exploring, throwing, climbing, rowing, fishing, and solving environmental puzzles. It is set to have its world premiere during the Tribeca Festival with the full release scheduled for early 2024. It's going to be available on Meta Quest headsets as well as mobile devices.
