Sony has tons of exclusive franchises for PlayStation. However, it seems like one of them will be going on a long hiatus. Before Guerrilla Games released the critically-acclaimed, Horizon Zero Dawn, they used to develop sci-fi first-person games called Killzone.

The Killzone franchise did receive positive reception, but it’s not universally liked. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why the series will now be in the backseat for a while. The official Killzone website has been retired. Visitors of the site will be redirected to the official PlayStation website in the future.

The official message on the website stated that online modes, ranking date, and player statistics for Killzone Shadow Fall and Killzone Mercenary are not affected. The problem, however, will not allow players to create or manage their clans anymore.

“It is now no longer possible to create or manage clans in KILLZONE SHADOW FALL. We apologize for this inconvenience,” the website noted.

This move by Sony makes sense. Guerrilla Games is currently busy with Horizon Forbidden West, which is assumed to release sometime in the second half of 2021. Several reports have also previously claimed that the Horizon franchise is supposed to be a trilogy. It means that after Forbidden West, Guerrilla Games will probably start working on the sequel.

The retiring of the Killzone website doesn’t mean that the franchise is completely dead. The series may be revived at some point, and only time will tell.

While you wait for Horizon Forbidden West, you can try out its predecessor currently available on PC and PS4. Horizon Zero Dawn was released on PC back in August 2020. The game also received a GOG release in November 2020.

So, what do you think? Do you want a new Killzone game? Or do you want Guerrilla Games to keep working on the Horizon franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
