Google’s Halloween doodle features and interactive cat game. Find out how to draw up spells that abolish ghosts and other tips and tricks to beat all five levels of the Halloween treat.

It’s Halloween and Google has brought its search audience a tiny treat in the form of a Google Doodle game featuring an adorable black cat wizard! The gameplay is pretty simple to figure out as it consists of drawing some basic symbols to match those above the heads of your ghostly opponents. When the correct symbols or combination of symbols are drawn with your cat hero’s magic wand, ghouls are banished into the abyss.

Players are given 5 lives to carry them through the five levels of gameplay with the ability to sometimes regain a life when a ghostly kitty appears to the left of the game screen.

While learning to play Google’s Halloween cat doodle game is fairly simple, beating all five levels before your lives run out isn’t as straightforward as it seems (level 4 is a real doozy).

We played the game through a few times and came up with a handful of useful tips and tricks to help you make it through all five levels of the game and reach your highest score possible (our best was 110,000 so far). Check them out below.

Google Halloween Cat Game Tips and Tricks

Tip #1: Draw Quickly and Correctly

Ok, so there are five basic symbols you’ll be drawing during the game: and up or down arrow, vertical or horizontal line and a lightening bolt. Get comfortable with quickly drawing these symbols if you want a chance at getting past the upper levels of the game. You also want to be careful to draw your symbols well. For example, when drawing a “^” symbol, I have a tendency to be a bit sloppy and this can make the symbol translate to “V” instead. Just watch where your line starts and you should do alright.

Tip #2: Pay Attention To Who Is Moving Fastest

In early levels of gameplay, multitasking is kept to a minimum, but as you progress through the game, you’ll sometimes have a large combo ghost coming towards you slowly, which you’ll become focused on and then out of nowhere, a speedy little ghost will come from the side requiring just one symbol to slay. If you are in the middle of drawing a long combo, it’s ok to stop and quickly draw the symbol of a quick moving ghost. Once you’ve taken care of him you can always go back to the combo you were working on. The key is to just pay attention to which ghost is closest to you and the speed at which its moving and draw your symbols accordingly.

Tip #3: When In Doubt, Draw In Rounds

Ok, so sometimes in a level you’ll suddenly find yourself surrounded by 5 or 10 ghosts at once and prioritizing seems impossible. The best thing to do at that point is to systematically draw each symbol as quickly as you can. I usually start with the vertical and horizontal lines and then the up and down arrows. Remember, if you draw a symbol, it takes out every ghost that has that symbol so drawing in rounds when you are surrounded is the best way to shred through some ghosts quickly.

Tip #4: Don’t Forget The Angel Kitties!

Although I think they actually appear as little ghost kitties with a heart above them, don’t ignore these little guys when they appear to the left of your screen. If you draw a heart symbol when they appear, you’ll be given an extra life.

Tip #5: Lightning Bolts Are Deadly

If you have a group of ghosts and ghouls coming at your precious kitty and you notice one of them has a lightning bolt, it’s a good idea to draw that symbol as soon as you can, as a lightening bolt often kills off one or two other ghosts at the same time.

Tip #6: Less Lives, Higher Scores

Once you’ve made it through all five levels the first time, chances are you’ll want to go back and play Google’s Kitty Halloween game again just to try to reach a higher score. I’m not exactly sure how scores are calculated but I know lives used plays a role. I think the number of strokes it takes to kill off ghosts may matter too, but I’ll have to play a few more times to find out for sure.

If you’ve played the game through quite a bit and have found some other tips for getting a higher score, share them in the comments below or send them to c.harbison@ibtimes.com and we’ll add them to our list, with a hat tip to you, of course, for sharing.
