If atmospheric horror titles are right up your alley, and you long for something like Layers of Fear or Outlast, then Silver Chains from Cracked Heads may be the one you’re looking for.
Publisher Headup Games, along with developer Cracked Head Games, announced an August 6 release date for the first-person horror game Silver Chains on PC via Steam and GOG. This will be followed by a released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch sometime in Q4 of 2019. The first-person horror title is highly reminiscent of that wave of titles a few years ago, when the genre was all the rage as was popularized by various Let’s Plays on YouTube.
Silver Chains is a heady mix of psychological and good old monster horror, in the same vein as Amnesia. Check out the terrifying teaser below to see just what to expect from Silver Chains.
The game has players controlling a character named Peter as he wakes up following an accident in which he hits a car with his tree during a stormy night. Peter then finds himself, quite inexplicably, in an old abandoned mansion somewhere in England. The why’s and how’s of his presence there is lost to him, but more pressing matters soon reveal themselves as Peter finds something sinister within the terrifying mansion, and Silver Chains soon evolves into a nerve-wracking game of uncovering the mansion’s various secrets.
Cliched as it sounds, Peter soon realizes that he has been here before, which leads to him trying to piece together the events that brought him here. Unfortunately, at the same time, something very evil starts to pick up on his trail, which he now has to evade along with figuring out the mansion’s many puzzles.
Silver Chains is a very atmospheric horror experience and uses highly detailed graphics to bring it to life. Running for your life can only get you so far, and the game does feature another way to avoid monsters and the supernatural entirely – by looking for a place to hide.
Cracked Head Games states that Silver Chains takes inspiration from titles like Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2, the Resident Evil Series, Dead by Daylight, Outlast and Outlast 2, Slender and Slender: The Arrival, and the Silent Hill Series.
