Based on GameRant's report, pre-orders for "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" on Nintendo Switch 2 have gone live on Amazon, and the listing has revealed both a price and a format that caught many by surprise.

Amazon is listing FromSoftware's open-world action RPG at $79.99 for the Switch 2, Based on this listing on Amazon, "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" features a December 31 placeholder instead of an official release date.

This release on the Switch 2 will give gamers multiple experiences in one as it offers both the base game and the "Elden Ring: Shadow of Erdtree" expansion. Under the $80 price tag, the game will also feature exclusive new weapons, Armors, Torrents, and more.

Switch 2's 'Elden Ring' Massive Caveat

Beyond the price, the format of the release is drawing just as much attention as it reveals that the game will be sold as a game-key card release from Nintendo and FromSoftware.

The Nintendo Switch 2 fan base has long been split between a game key card and a physical game cartridge. It is important to note that a game key card contains no data and requires players to download the game from the eShop, just like its digital copies.

The key card also needs to remain inserted in the console to play. It can, however, be used on multiple devices and resold without restrictions.

According to speculations, players can expect a massive download with "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" once the key card is used.

It is known that Nintendo introduced the Switch 2 game key card format as a way to fight rising physical media production and distribution costs, which started with "Pokémon Pokopia."
