FromSoftware is expanding the world of "Elden Ring" yet again—this time by releasing its highly regarded action RPG to the next-gen Nintendo Switch 2.
The recently announced "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" is bursting with improvements, such as new character classes, new armor sets, and unique cosmetic extras for Torrent, the player's ghostly horse.
New Content Coming in 'Tarnished Edition' for Switch 2
Aimed to be revealed at the FROMSOFTWARE GAMES EVENT Spring 2025 in Tokyo, "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" is not a simple platform migration, according to Famitsu. It brings two entirely new playable classes: the Knight of Ides and the Heavy Armored Knight.
Although information is limited, initial glimpses reveal that these additions include distinctive designs and focus on players who want a different gaming experience.
These two new classes will be pre-equipped with unique armor sets, which are part of four new armor sets found in the "Tarnished Edition." The other two sets will be accessible through gameplay, providing another level of customization for both veterans and newcomers.
Torrent Gets a Makeover
FromSoftware isn't just holding back on new armor and classes. Torrent, the devoted spirit horse that assists players in navigating the Lands Between, will receive three entirely new appearances. These cosmetic upgrades allow players to personalize their mount more than ever before—a welcome addition for Switch 2 players embarking on new quests.
The whole bundle will also feature the highly anticipated "Shadow of the Erdtree" DLC, which was already announced for other platforms. Better still, all this new material will be accessible outside the Switch universe via the "Tarnished Pack" DLC, which will be released at a reasonable price on all platforms.
Giving 'Elden Ring' a Chance to be Playable on Switch 2
Releasing "Elden Ring" on Nintendo's next-gen console provides an opportunity for players to replay or start the massive journey with new rewards.
Since the Switch 2 is set to have better performance capabilities, the Lands Between can be visited with better graphics and performance, putting a new layer of polish on the game, according to IGN.
New character classes are especially enticing for players who might have finished the game on other systems. Bracing with added content from the beginning, presents a strong incentive to come back into the unforgiving, immersive environment of "Elden Ring."
30 Million Sales and Counting
"Elden Ring" has already sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and adding Switch 2 compatibility is only going to further propel those figures skyward.
On Reddit, some "Elden Ring" fans commented about the new classes.
"They said that an upgrade dlc will be available for the other systems, yeah? Starting the game with Milady might be enough for me to play it again...," one gamer wrote.
"heavy knight as a starting class is interesting only because i'm trying to think how fast you can be about getting a good set (prob b-lining for Lionel's set instead of fighting Tragoth). That and wondering what the stats would be cuz you prob fat rolling or taking your helmet and gloves off," another avid "Elden Ring" fan posted.
"New classes is actually pretty sick changes up replays alot and some new stuff is always need to spice up the game im more excited for this than nightrein lol," another player said.
