"Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on Aug. 28, 2026, bundling the base game with the "Shadow of the Erdtree" expansion and additional new content, publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware have announced.
Bandai Namco confirmed that "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" is a complete package that includes the original 2022 action RPG and its major expansion "Shadow of the Erdtree," bringing the full experience to Nintendo's next-generation hardware in a single release.
The game was initially revealed for Switch 2 during a Nintendo Direct presentation and has now been given a firm late-August 2026 launch date after an earlier release window and a delay, according to Eurogamer.
'Elden Ring' is Coming to the Nintendo Switch 2
In addition to the expansion, the Switch 2 version will introduce new starting classes, fresh armor sets, and extra character and mount customization options branded as part of the Tarnished content.
These features are designed to sit on top of the base game's existing systems, giving both new and returning players additional build and cosmetic choices when beginning their journey in the Lands Between.
The new content offered in "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" will not be exclusive to Nintendo's platform, as Bandai Namco has said it will arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam as a separate package known as the Tarnished Pack.
This pack will make the extra classes, armor, weapons, and customization elements available to players who already own the base game and "Shadow of the Erdtree" on other systems, launching alongside the Switch 2 edition.
Bandai Namco describes "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" on Switch 2 as an all-in-one release that combines the open-world design, legacy dungeons, and cooperative and competitive online features of the original title with the additional story, bosses, and regions introduced in "Shadow of the Erdtree," RPGSite reported.
The publisher positions the package as a way for players who have not yet purchased "Elden Ring" on any platform to access the full set of narrative and gameplay content in a single purchase on Nintendo's portable-console hybrid.
Full Details of the Release
While some technical specifics for the Switch 2 version have not been fully detailed, preview coverage and early hands-on reports indicate that the game targets visual settings and performance tailored to the new hardware while maintaining the core design and structure seen on PC and other consoles.
Storage requirements and performance profiles are expected to reflect the demands of the open-world format and expansion content, but Bandai Namco has not yet provided final figures or graphics mode breakdowns for the retail version.
"Elden Ring" and "Shadow of the Erdtree" are currently available on existing PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms, and the Switch 2 "Tarnished Edition" will extend that lineup by adding Nintendo's next system to the list of supported devices in August 2026.
With the Tarnished Pack releasing simultaneously for other platforms, Bandai Namco is aligning content across ecosystems so that players on different hardware can access the same additional classes, gear, and customization options at the same time, as per Gematsu.
