Echo Dominates World of Warcraft Mythic Dungeon International Season 1

Dominating! Blizzard

To say that Echo won the World of Warcraft Mythic Dungeon International Season 1 is probably understating what happened. The reality is that they dominated the entire tournament. Starting from round one and all the way to the Grand Final, the team was undefeated.

The result is a surprise to some considering that Golden Guardians was one of those favored to win the competition.

During the early part of the tournament, these were the teams that secured spots early for the Grand Finals:

  • Echo
  • Perplexed
  • PI Me
  • Obey Alliance
  • Does Gargoyle Stream?

They were later joined by these teams:

  • Stygia
  • Just So So
  • Golden Guardians

The Road to the Grand Final

As mentioned, Echo swept all their opponents up to the Finals. They started with Stygia, then Obey Alliance, and eventually Perplexed.

Golden Guardians, meanwhile, had a strong start only to be put to the Elimination Bracket by Perplexed. Later on, Golden Guardians faced Perplexed again and they still didn’t manage to overcome this particular hurdle. Golden Guardians had to settle for third place.

The Grand Final

In this round, it was Echo versus Perplexed. Both teams were actually the top teams in the Global Region. The match served as a rematch since Echo beat Perplexed 2–0 in the semi-final.

However, Echo was just too strong and Perplexed had to bow out in three games.

In a post, MDI Program Lead Adrian Archer-Lock said that they weren’t that surprised to see Echo and Perplexed face off in the Grand Final. He added that with the way Echo played in Game 1, they knew it was going to be an exciting match. He continued that they’re excited to see what Season 2 has to offer.

World of Warcraft revealed that while MDI Season 1 may have ended, lots of action are coming. There’s The Great Push from May 28 to 30, and before that, everyone can look forward to the Arena World Championship Season 1 Final happening from May 1 to 2.

What do you think? Did you enjoy the MDI? What upcoming tournament are you excited about?
