Electronic Arts Sports has recently revealed that there will be no "F1 26" release coming this year to replace the "F1 25" game from last year, breaking its annual release schedule for the title.
This is because the studio and the developers behind the game are planning for massive changes coming to the franchise with a planned full reboot to the series which will bear fruit come 2027.
EA Sports Skips 'F1 26' Game in Favor of 2027 Release
EA Sports and developer Codemaster have shared a joint announcement which officially confirms that the "F1 26" game is no longer happening.
With this, "F1 25" will now serve as the game that would represent both the 2025 and 2026 season of the annual FIA Formula One World Championships.
This is because the studios are favoring a bigger release slated for 2027 for the "F1" game franchise. According to EA Sports, the "F1 25" game saw significant success in the market and earned praises from the likes of content creators, media, players, and F1 drivers alike.
With this, EA Sports and Codemaster are now working to develop a new experience via a paid expansion, which remains nameless. According to the team, the expansion will deliver a "premium content update" that will give players the major changes slated for the 2026 F1 season featuring new cars, sporting regulations, drivers, and teams.
'F1' for 2027 Will Reboot the Entire Racing Game
According to Codemasters Senior Creative Director Lee Mather, "We're fully committed to the EA SPORTS F1 franchise. Our multi-year plan extends this year's excitement with the 2026 expansion and reimagines the F1 experience for 2027 to deliver even more for players at every level around the world."
In around two years, EA Sports and Codemasters will follow up with a new "F1" game which will reboot the franchise and deliver a brand-new experience unlike its current "F1 25" title.
According to the announcement, "In 2027, a new game will be released that looks, feels, and plays differently, delivering more gameplay choices."
The "2027 F1" game, as dubbed by EA Sports and Codemasters, would deliver a "refreshed experience" which focuses on expanding what longtime players of the game loved and enjoyed from the franchise.
EA Sports claimed that this reboot "F1" game would feature a new and immersive experience that highlights the sport, one that both existing and newcomers would fully enjoy.
Through the years, EA Sports' "F1" game has given players a chance to play out their dreams to become a Formula One racer via the career mode, but also have them compete online, or play casually.
