Doom Eternal's previously announced update, Update 1.1, is now live. The update is only for PC and it finally removes Denuvo Anti-Cheat from the game. However, you will still have to manually uninstall the software from Windows ‘add/remove programs’. The update also fixed some bugs and improved the performance of Doom Eternal, which was lost due to the previous update.

Several crash issues related to customizable skins and memory are now fixed. The update also improved the performance of Doom Eternal by fixing the VRAM allocation. Update 1 changed how VRAM allocation was handled, which caused reduced performance of the game for several users. Update 1.1 reverted these changes back to the original.

You can read all the changes made by the patch below and on the official site.

Doom Eternal Update 1.1 Patch Notes

Removed Denuvo Anti-Cheat integration

  • Use Windows add/remove programs to uninstall Denuvo Anti-Cheat

Fixes for PC Only

  • Fixed several crashes associated with customizable skins
  • Fixed memory-related crashes affecting some users
  • Reverted a VRAM allocation change that caused some users to experience degraded performance with Update 1

The removal of Denuvo Anti-Cheat will make players very happy. A few days ago, Doom Eternal received some massive backlash from the community after it added the anti-cheat program. Players called it very invasive as it worked at the kernel level and was always active while you played, even during the campaign. Eternal was review bombed on Steam with over 6,600 negative reviews. The backlash was so bad that Marty Stratton, Executive Producer of Id Software, had to come to Reddit and assure fans that they will be removing the new anti-cheat. Be sure to check out our previous article about the community backlash over here.
