G.I. Joe may be the real American hero but the World of Tanks is going a different route. Instead, the game is offering everyone the chance to fight with Cobra Commander. He arrives courtesy of the G.I. JOE: Cobra special package as part of Prime Gaming, available from April 15 to May 18.

Cobra Commander brings with him more than 200 custom preset voice lines. He also has three skills, all of which have been perfected during years of fighting with the Joes.

Players are reminded that Prime Gaming membership is needed to get the rewards.

Matchmaking Improvements

World of Tanks also announced some changes to the Matchmaking, particularly for Low-Tier Novice Battles. The goal of these improvements is to make it easy for players to join the game as well as master skills faster. Just as a reminder, low-tier Random Battles are those in Tiers I–V.

What’s going to happen is when new players join a battle with only low-tier vehicles, the matchmaking system tries to make sure that the battle involves only novices for both teams. However, if the number of new players isn’t enough to result in two full teams, the system adds regular players to specific novice battles. Novice players who use a Tier VI vehicle are placed in a battle with regular players.

While the changes seem simple, it should be a win-win for all players, be they novices or regulars. The changes should:

  • Lower the difficulty curve so that new players can easily get the basics of World of Tanks and motivate them to play and win.
  • Ensure that more experienced commanders are matched with skilled opponents.
    • This way they can improve their abilities and face the right amount of challenge.
  • Reduce the queuing time for all players, especially on low-population servers.
