Bobcat-based running game Bubsy: Paws on Fire! has finally received its launch date for the Nintendo Switch. This is after its delayed release, which was supposed to be scheduled for May 16, alongside its PC and PS4 counterparts. This announcement feels appropriate, and for lack of a better word, it feels right, as the original Bubsy game was initially released for the SNES. It's only fitting that in the latest release for the franchise, Bubsy finally experience his Nintendo homecoming in the Nintendo Switch.
Bubsy: Paws on Fire! is the sixth title in the Bubsy video game series. You play as Bubsy, the titular anthropomorphic bobcat who is the hero of the franchise. There are also three other playable characters this time around, each with their own unique game mechanics. If you ever get tired of running and gliding with Bubsy, you can play as unlikely ally Woolie and fly through the air or take things underground with Arnold.
Bubsy: Paws on Fire! boasts over 140 different levels spread across three different worlds. Along with it comes a variety of in-game collectibles, costumes, and cosmetic options that are not hidden behind a paywall. These cosmetic upgrades can be unlocked just by playing the game. This should provide more than enough hours of playtime for a simple running game, as well as for fans of the Bubsy series.
Barring any major bugs or technical issues, Bubsy: Paws on Fire! should still see success similar to what it experienced in its PS4 and PC release. We can remain hopeful that its lukewarm critical reception for the two aforementioned platforms may still improve once the Switch version becomes available.
The developer behind the Bit.Trip series, Choice Provisions, along with publisher Accolade announced that Bubsy: Paws on Fire will be launched on August 29 for the Nintendo Switch, both physically and digitally through the Nintendo eShop. Accolade is also offering a limited-edition copy which includes a Bubsy: Paws on Fire! soundtrack sampler, a Mini Collectors' Booklet, as well as a Player’s Guide. This is currently available for pre-order on Amazon for $39.99.
