Borderlands 3 Might Have Crossplay, But No Promises Yet

Crossplay is definitely on the table, so let’s wait and see what happens next.
Borderlands 3 Crossplay? Maybe. Hopefully.
Borderlands 3 Crossplay? Maybe. Hopefully. 2K Games

There’s a ton of hype around Gearbox’s upcoming title, Borderlands 3. While fans of the franchise have been trying to dig up as much information as they can, the most recent question has been: will it have cross-platform play? There are no definite answers yet, but the many in the gaming community are half-glad, half-anxious that 2K Games is ‘looking at it closely’.

The way the gaming industry is now, there’s definitely a rift between PC gamers and console gamers. While almost all of the most popular games of today are available for the most popular platforms of today - PC, Xbox One, and PS4 - only a handful of them offer crossplay, or the ability to enjoy games with players from different platforms. Some of the most notable crossplay-enabled games today are Rocket League, Fortnite, DC Universe Online, and Minecraft. The technology is definitely available, but many large-scale games still have trouble with implementing cross-platform play. That said, it’s apparent that the hard-working devs behind Borderlands 3 are carefully considering enabling crossplay, but also the obstacles and potential difficulties that they may encounter should they decide to.

For now, it’s anybody’s guess whether or not Borderlands 3 will have crossplay enabled, but I’m sure with enough support from the community, the devs will do their best to make it happen. Right now, the developers are probably doing everything they can to make Borderlands 3 ready and set for its September 13 launch date.

Borderlands 3 is the fourth installment in the Borderlands series, and takes place after the events that occurred in the first Borderlands game, but before the events of Borderlands 2. Borderlands 3 is set to come out on September 13 as an Epic Games Store timed exclusive for PC, but will also be available for Xbox One and PS4 via their respective storefronts.

Crossplay on Borderlands 3 is going to help a lot of players bridge the gap between PC gamers and console gamers, and we’re excited to see that happen in a looter-shooter as chaotic as Borderlands. What do you think about the the possibility of crossplay on the upcoming Borderlands game? What other benefits and advantages do you see for Borderlands 3 should crossplay come into fruition?
