If you're already excited about the upcoming Steam Next Fest 2023 on February 6, indie game developer Baykal Arts is giving you one more reason why you should look forward to this event. That's because the studio is going to offer a demo of Ashen Knights: One Passage, the first ever version of the game available to the general public.
The demo highlights the core gameplay features where players get to experience the combat styles of the two protagonists. There's the dynamic hack n’ slash of Primos which is a lot different to the challenging meditative souls-like of Evelin. Indeed, nothing is the same when it comes to these two knights. Whether fighting styles, abilities, enemies, and even locations, they vary between the two. However, both have dark secrets and these are what knit them together.
In a statement, game producer and lead game designer Deniz Baykal shared that in terms of narrative, the demo offers a standalone story. He added that players can look forward to a peculiar nightmare which comes with a mix of fragmented memories, images, and hallucinations. Baykal went on to say that there will be hints, allusions, and references that are sure to shed some light on the relationship between Primos and Evelin.
In addition to the combination of two kinds of gameplay, the demo also offers puzzles set in a grim dark fantasy world of Ashen Knights. This demo is available from February 6 to February 13.
The general gameplay of Ashen Knights: One Passage is a way of sharing and expressing emotions. By playing as different characters, you get to feel how the battle drive is replaced with crippling anxiety which slowly transforms into blinding rage. All of the emotions, each sound, each note, and each detail are a hidden message from the game world.
