Season 7 Results

Before we check out what's coming to Ranked Leagues, let’s take a quick look at what happened in the previous season.

According to Respawn Entertainment, Season 7 not only had higher player counts but also had more playtime compared to past seasons. As a result, there’s a better spread of players when it comes to the Ranked tiers. The distribution for Season 7 and Season 6 is as follows:

    • Season 7: 16.35%
    • Season 6: 17.76%
  • Silver
    • Season 7: 23.86%
    • Season 6: 26.23%
  • Gold
    • Season 7: 32.09%
    • Season 6: 36.25%
  • Platinum
    • Season 7: 23.13%
    • Season 6: 17.75%
  • Diamond
    • Season 7: 4.37%
    • Season 6: 1.89%
  • Master & Apex Predator
    • Season 7: 0.20%
    • Season 6: 0.12%

Season 8 Changes

Respawn shared in a post that they wanted to have a healthier top end in Diamond+ for this new season. Diamond and above are considered as the best of the best, and so Respawn doesn’t want to change that, but they do want more players to play against those having similar skills.

They also want to improve match quality for Ranked matches. While this allows for more competitively fair matches to be available, the downside is that it could result in queue times being longer.

To meet the two goals mentioned, changes are set to be implemented to the RP system which includes:

  • Earn placement RP earlier in a match
    • RP rewards begin at placement 13 instead of 10 in a match.
  • Kill/Assist count has been raised to 6
    • Players get to earn RP for more o kills and assists in a given match.
  • Assist Threshold Increased to 10 seconds
    • Players can earn assists for up to 10 seconds, an increase from 7.5 seconds, after dealing damage to a target that is killed by someone else.
  • Predator has been increased to the top 750 players
    • Having more players enter Predator rank should improve queue times while remaining an exclusive tier for the highest levels of play.
  • Matchmaking Tightening
    • Players below Diamond now matchmake much more often within their own Ranks.

So what do you think of these changes?
