The Wolf Among Us 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2013 game, has been delayed out of 2023. Fans have been waiting for the second game for almost a decade now, and it seems the wait isn’t ending anytime soon.

The Wolf Among Us 2 was officially announced in 2022 with a release date set for this year. However, the developer required more time to deliver a polished product, so they made the hard decision to delay the title. Plus, they didn’t want the employees to burn out or have them suffer from a crunch.
“I've done [crunch], and I don't want to do it again, and it's not fair to ask it,” Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie said in an interview.
While not wanting employees to do crunch might be a noble reason, it isn’t the only one. The developer also announced that the game engine is being changed from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. This will definitely lead to more development time.
While delays in game development are not uncommon, the news is still disappointing for fans who have been eagerly anticipating its release. The Wolf Among Us 2 was one of the most anticipated games of 2023, and fans were looking forward to returning to the world of Fables and seeing how the story would continue.
The delay has also raised questions about the future of the franchise. The original game was developed by Telltale Games, which went bankrupt in 2018. AdHoc Studio, the developer of the sequel, was founded by former Telltale employees who worked on the original game. While the studio has promised to deliver a high-quality game, fans are understandably concerned about the future of the franchise if the sequel does not live up to expectations.
The original TWAU was known for its narrative-driven adventure games. It was based on the Fables comic book series by Bill Willingham and featured a gritty, neo-noir storyline set in a world where fairy tale characters live among us in secret.
