The Walking Dead Season 8 premiere marks 100 episodes for the series. Player. One received a screener for the episode and we saw callbacks to iconic moments as well as an epic plan to take down Negan. Of course, things don’t always go as planned in The Walking Dead . Here are some of our thoughts on the premiere and a few moments fans will have to brace for, sans spoilers. This is only a teaser for what’s to come, so if you’re looking for detailed plot points, then you’ll have to wait for The Walking Dead Season 8 premiere.

Oh and don’t worry, your Old Man Rick questions will be answered by the end of the premiere.

1. Not-so-zen Morgan

We’ve already seen Morgan break his no-kill rule twice and it carries into the premiere. It doesn’t sit well that to see Morgan kill anyone. The first time he broke his no-kill rule was to save Carol. The second time was to avenge Ben’s death in front of the saviors. And in The Walking Dead Season 8 premiere, we see Morgan struggle with finding peace. He looks angry and cold. It’s not the zen Morgan we’ve got used to and we’re curious to see how it plays out.

2. Daryl and Dwight sitting in a tree

Basically, Daryl and Dwight pass notes with their crossbows. It’s ironic and almost feels like they’re taunting each other, even though they’re on the same side. It feels like they’re saying to each other, “I can kill you if I wanted to. You’re still on my shit list.” We doubt Dwight and Daryl have made peace with each other and it’ll be interesting to see how their dynamic develops.

3. No baby bump

The show appears to take its time with Maggie’s pregnancy. She’s in her second trimester, so it’s been at least 4 months since Glenn and Abraham got the bat.

4. Carol is fighting again

We saw Carol crawl her way out of the darkness by the end of The Walking Dead Season 7. She’s fighting to defend her people, but it’s clear she doesn’t enjoy it. She looks sad and tired. In fact, is seems like no one in either Rick or Negan’s side wants to fight. Maggie, Ezekiel and the rest of Rick’s allies know they have no choice but to defend themselves. The premiere is about taking back control, but at huge costs for everyone involved.

Side note: Carol and Daryl do share a brief moment in the premiere. We don’t ship them anymore though – she looks more like a friend he desperately needs.

5. The Carl-Rick Throwback

There’s a shot-for-shot scene in The Walking Dead Season 8 premiere, where Carl follows in his father’s footsteps from the first season. It’s a throwback to the moment in The Walking Dead premiere where Rick meets the zombie little girl at the gas station. AMC released the clip during New York Comic Con this year and made it available on YouTube.

This moment comes back in the end of the premiere. Carl is holding out hope that there are good people in the world. This leads me to believe Carl might be the one who takes pity on Negan during the All Out War storyline instead of Morgan.
