The Buddy System in 'Pokemon Go' Niantic

The Appraise feature for Pokémon Go was just the beginning as Niantic has revealed a brand new update for its popular mobile game.

While dataminers discovered the Buddy System when the last update came along, Niantic has given new and official details about what this new feature actually does.

According to the official Pokémon Go site, the Buddy System will allow players to team up with one particular Pokémon to travel with. Here’s the exact wording of what the upcoming Pokémon Go feature can do:

“You will be able to pick your favorite Pokémon from your collection to become your buddy, opening up unique in-game rewards and experiences. Buddy Pokémon will appear alongside your Trainer avatar on your profile screen, adding helpful bonuses such as awarding Candy for walking together. You’ll also have the ability to change your Buddy Pokémon at any time.”

Niantic didn’t reveal much else about the Pokémon Go Buddy System but the datamining suggests players should expect to see four types of Pokémon for the Buddy System: medium size, big size, flying next to you and resting on your shoulder. These categories correspond to how the Pokémon will appear next to your avatar.

Niantic also showed images of how the Buddy System will look in Pokémon Go on the official site so be sure to check it out.

However, the biggest part of this new system is how trainers will be rewarded with their Buddy Pokémon’s candies. This will help trainers earn the candies needed to evolve their favorite Pokémon or simply make them stronger.

If you’re having a hard time finding Charmander to catch, pick it as your buddy and let the candies roll in. Unfortunately, Niantic did not provide more specific details about the mechanics of the Buddy System but we will investigate once the update drops.

The release date of this upcoming Pokémon Go update was not revealed, but Niantic said it was around the corner, so keep your eyes peeled, trainers! Be sure to check back with iDigitalTimes for the latest.

In the meantime, let us know who your Buddy Pokémon will be in the comments section below.
