Square Enix unveiled the much-awaited "Final Fantasy VII Revelation" with a massive announcement during the Summer Game Fest 2026 event.
"Final Fantasy VII Revelation" officially marks the end of this long-running remake trilogy.
'Final Fantasy 7 Revelation' Debuts in Summer Game Fest
Square Enix waited until the last moments of Summer Game Fest 2026 to take the stage and end the event with a bang by announcing the final game in the remake series, "Final Fantasy 7 Revelation."
Director Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage alongside Vincent Valentine's voice actor, Matt Mercer, bringing the fans the final piece of the trilogy they have been waiting for.
Hamaguchi said, "In this title, centered around "resolve,' Cloud and his companions will confront their respective convictions and continue their journey towards the final battle that will determine the planet's fate."
The "Final Fantasy 7" remake trilogy has been retelling the story of Cloud Strife and his pursuit of the villainous Sephiroth across three separate games, beginning with the Midgar-set "Remake" in 2020.
The story then expanded significantly in scope with "Rebirth" in 2024. Finally, "Revelation" is the chapter that brings that journey to a close.
Square Enix's Final Game in the Remake Trilogy
According to CNET, "Revelation" picks up directly from where "Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth" left off, and the reveal trailer opens with Sephiroth calling down Meteor, one of the most iconic and catastrophic threats in the entire franchise.
The reveal trailer showcases massive open-world exploration, aerial travel aboard the Highwind, and the return of fan-favorite characters Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind as playable party members.
Players can also bail out of the ship mid-flight and parachute directly into any zone below.
Combat is also seeing meaningful changes as the team brings back the jobs system that has been layered on top of "Rebirth's" real-time foundation, opening up new possibilities for how players build and use their party members in battle.
What and When to Expect 'FFVII Revelation'
"Final Fantasy 7 Revelation" is targeting a Spring 2027 launch across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will reportedly launched at the same time across all platforms.
Square Enix also revealed that the "Streamlined Progression" feature in both titles is also available, bringing unlimited HP and MP, an always-full ATB gauge, and easier weapon ability acquisition.
There are no exact release dates yet for its release, but Square Enix said that a "FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTEGRADE & REBIRTH - Twin Pack" is releasing soon for only $59.99. This will allow players to catch up on the two earlier games of the remake for a lower price.
